Are You Pursuing Your Dreams?

I love pursuing my dreams. Well, let’s modify that. I love dreaming of all that I could do. Actually pursuing those dreams can be downright terrifying! I mean, you have to submit your dreams to the scrutiny of others, you have to take risks, step into the total unknown, and heaven help us…be vulnerable!!

I realized this week I have been looking for one “Big Break,” something that will plaster my books (and face?) across the media of the country…all in one fell swoop…in a way I choose of course. Well…that could happen, but hasn’t so far. With this realization, I also saw I have had many smaller ideas for promoting my books that did not follow up on. Why hadn’t I followed up on them? It was a humbling realization to see it was because I didn’t know what the results would be. I was afraid. I wouldn’t be in control of the results. Nope. I wouldn’t. I would be jumping into the unknown with who knows WHAT as the consequence. People might hate it or laugh at me, doors might slam (or close politely) in my face, or just maybe…publicity would take off in some direction I wasn’t mentally prepared for! Yikes! Yes…these thoughts do go through my head. Vulnerability can be scary.

But vulnerability, I realized, can also be seen as an adventure. I am shifting my gaze toward that horizon. Who knows what exciting surprises await! With every visit, email or phone call, my books and I could end up looking at some new vista I’d never thought of before. An unexpected opportunity could be behind any door. This has turned my journey from a terrifying, creeping-through-a-booby-trapped-old-house journey, into an adventure of looking for clues leading to buried treasure (I always did like pirate stories and treasure maps).

Is there something holding you back from pursuing your dreams? Don’t just dream them…pursue them!

Below is a promo video for a hilarious show I’ll be on one of these next Fridays. And it’s all about pursuing your dreams. I had TONS of fun as a guest on this show, and I think you’ll enjoy it too!

P.S. “Bogie” also does a voice on my audio book…but sounds TOTALLY different
